“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live it’s whole life thinking it’s stupid.”

Here at the BDA we are all reeling a bit from the excitement and activities of dyslexia awareness week. In the world of dyslexia we often focus on providing support with literacy or overcoming other challenges but increasingly we are becoming aware that one of the biggest challenges is that of the mental health and wellbeing issues of individuals who are dyslexic. The stress of constantly maybe having to play catch up with peers or even trying to disguise the difficulties that they may experience can lead to serious welfare and mental health issues.

Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree, it will live it’s whole life thinking it’s stupid.” – Albert Einstein

Common sense tells us that self-belief, self-esteem and confidence are vital for success but how do you build that with individuals who we support. At the International Conference (12th – 14th April 2018, Telford International Centre) on Saturday there are multiple workshops and talks about this vitally important issue.
